What exactly is Phensy?
Phensy is a live video discussion platform built for small audiences and topic communities. You open a "table" on any topic, people gather round, and an AI co-host quietly handles the production work — running recaps, fact-checking claims, organizing questions, and proposing polls — so you can focus on the conversation. Hosting is free to start, or $20/month for Pro; attendees always join free.
Is Phensy free to join?
Yes. Joining a table is always free. You don't need to subscribe to listen in, ask a question, or even host your first session — Free hosts get 5-seat tables up to 60 minutes long and the Q&A copilot. Hosts upgrade to Pro when they want bigger rooms, private tables, the full AI suite, or ticketed sessions.
Do I need to download anything to use Phensy?
No. Phensy runs in your browser — Chrome, Safari, Firefox, Edge. Audio and video work without installs. Your browser will ask permission for camera and microphone the first time, and that's it. Mobile browsers work too; a dedicated mobile app is on the roadmap.
What kinds of live sessions work best on Phensy?
Anything where the conversation is the point — not the slideshow. Workshops, AMAs, live podcast recordings, language lessons, coaching office hours, masterclasses, book clubs, expert panels. Phensy is built for small-to-medium live audiences (5–20 people depending on tier) and is not a great fit for webinars-to-a-crowd or async on-demand classes.
How private is a session on Phensy?
Public tables are listed and joinable via shared link. Private tables (a Pro feature) are invite-only and never surface in any directory. Either way, audio and video stream through self-hosted Jitsi infrastructure; only the AI features (recap, fact-check, polls) talk to Phensy's backend, and transcripts live only as long as you need them for the recap.
Where is Phensy based, and how is data handled?
Phensy is run from Sweden and built GDPR-compliant from the start. Privacy policy and terms cover the specifics — including sub-processors, data retention, and your right to request deletion. Transcripts and recap data are deleted on a schedule you control.
