Modern cars actively fight back against DIY repair: sealed headlight units you can't open without breaking them, proprietary diagnostic tools that cost more than the part you're replacing, and software locks that mean even a legitimate part swap can trigger a "not authorized" error until a dealer clears it. Right-to-repair laws are slowly chipping at this, but slowly. Anyone still doing their own repairs on anything built in the last five years, or have we all quietly given up and started booking appointments instead?
