Are we lonelier, or just louder about it?

Everyone says community is collapsing — fewer people in clubs, churches, and unions than a generation ago, and surveys keep showing loneliness climbing, especially among young men. But some of that decline might just be community moving somewhere older surveys don't measure: Discord servers, group chats, fandoms that only meet in person once a year. Is the loneliness real, or are we just bad at counting connection that doesn't look like a bowling league anymore? Where do you actually find your people these days?
